Dysfunctional Harmony (written 9/13/2003)
Nature–A simple word it is
Yet so many things are implied by this small, six-lettered word.
It manages to span the heavens and everything below;
All the way to the minutest corner in the deep blue sea.
Nothing is unthinkable in this huge universe in which we exist.
Each of us a tiny speck in the vast array of elements that compose it.
Our lifetimes are mere dots along the unending time of the ageless universe.
Even with our insignificance realized,
We all arrogantly seek to be significant.
We are moved to attempt to fathom the extremities of our mother.
She was kind enough to provide
All that we need to survive.
In return, we probe her and destroy her.
All she has done is love us.
What right have we to try to master her?
Sure she isn’t physically present like the woman who gave birth to us,
But she is no less precious, no less valuable and no less venerable than that woman.
